Personal Phone Etiquette While on Duty

Transcript

Trainer: Oh, hi. What can I get for you? That is an example of what you do not want to do, what you don’t want to see. There is nothing worse than walking into a cafe and seeing a staff member that just clearly doesn’t care because they’re on their phone.

When you are working, I always recommend putting your phone in a safe space. If there is a staff room or a staff area available, just leave your phone there. There usually isn’t really any need for you to have your phone on the floor unless you’re using your phone for the order taking and for your job. Otherwise, your personal device is really not necessary during the job.

When you are serving, it is usually quite clear that you have a phone in your pocket, and it really looks quite messy. Even if you have a shirt to cover it, if you go to grab something out of your apron, you don’t want people seeing that you have your personal phone in your pocket. Also, personal phones do carry a lot of germs, and you don’t want to have your hands all over your dirty phone when you’re serving. So phones need to be away.
